Oppo Reno Review, Price 2019: First Impression

We were able to try the Oppo Reno during its launch in Zurich. Waiting to be able to analyze it in more depth, these are our first impressions about its design, cameras, and screen.

In an event that took place in Zurich this April 24, Oppo has presented its new smartphones to the European market and PCWorld Spain has had the opportunity to test them in person.

Among what stands out most of the new Oppo Reno is the sliding mechanism of the upper part for which the company has opted to offer a spectacular display of 19.5: 9 without any hole and with just bevel.

Do not miss our first impressions on the latest Oppo smartphone , which will arrive in stores next month ready to compete with high-end models but at a much more affordable price.

Price and availability

The Oppo Reno will be on sale in Spain next May 10, while we will have to wait a few more weeks to be able to buy the premium Reno 10x Zoom version. The 5G model will not be available in our country for now.

As for the price, Oppo has confirmed that it will have a recommended price of € 499, € 300 less than the premium model.

Design and manufacturing quality

At first glance, Oppo has not innovated too much in terms of design. Its appearance does not particularly attract attention, although the degradation of colors of the back cover of Gorilla Glass itself is a very attractive detail.

The new Reno series by Oppo is available in two colors: Ocean Green (green) and Jet Black (black). They are pretty reminiscent of Huawei’s P30 series tones. In fact, both companies claim to have been inspired by nature.

We value very positively that there are not too many differences in the design between the standard and the premium model . If what worries you the most is that it seems that you have an expensive mobile, the Oppo Reno will give the hit.

Taking a look at the buttons and ports, we have the power button on the right side, while in the other we find both the volume and the SIM slot. The USB C port, the jack port and the speaker are on the bottom.

Oppo has wanted to put itself at the top of the mobiles with better screen-body ratio and we must recognize that it has achieved it with the new Oppo series. The monitor of the new smartphones occupies 93.1% of the surface.

This is achieved, on the one hand, with the reduction almost to the minimum of the bevels that surround the panel, but also thanks to the absence of a notch and the sliding mechanism of the front camera, which will be discussed next.

We will need some more time to analyze its quality, but after a first contact we are satisfied with what this 6.4-inch OLED screen and resolution of 2340 x 1080 offers.

Although the main protagonist of the new Reno series is the 10x Zoom model due to the capabilities of its triple rear camera, we should not underestimate the configuration of the most basic model, especially considering its price.

In this case, we found a dual camera in the back with a main lens of 48 MP and another of 5 MP. This configuration does not allow the hybrid zoom of up to 10 magnifications and the dual OIS of the most expensive model.

On the other hand, we do have very attractive functions on paper such as Ultra Night Mode 2.0, artistic portrait mode, 4K video recording and its ability to present colors as the human eye appreciates them.

Other similarities are found in the front. In fact, the Oppo Reno has the same 16 MP front camera that hides in the same sliding mechanism in the shape of the upper part of the terminal.

Surely many will seem a somewhat extravagant system, but can not deny that it is effective to get the screen occupies the maximum possible surface in the front of the mobile.

On paper, the internal components and specifications of Oppo Reno show us a powerful smartphone and even something faster than what is usual in mid-range phones.

Oppo has equipped the standard model with a Snapdragon Qualcomm 710 processor. You can choose between 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal memory. The higher configuration will be sufficient for somewhat more demanding tasks.

Battery, connectivity and audio autonomy

We still can not determine what the real battery life of Oppo Reno is, but for now we know that it has a capacity of 3765 mAh, enough for an entire day of use.

It is also compatible with Super VOOC 3.0 fast charging. It is not compatible with wireless charging, so you will have to settle for using a USB cable. In this case, the charging port is USB Type-C.

The Oppo Reno comes with the Android Pie 9.0 installed in the system, although in this case it takes the form of its Color OS 6 skin . As little as we have been able to see, it seems to work without problems.

We can reach a more firm conclusion when we try the Oppo Reno more thoroughly, but for now we can say that it is a good flagship with good performance and good price.

Certainly, it is a very good option considering all that it offers and at a quite affordable cost. It has a good screen, enough storage, excellent camera and a nice design.

The great inconvenience that has is the short route of Oppo in the Spanish market. The brand landed in Spain in 2018 and still has not managed to stand out too much. When it does, it will be able to compete for face to face with more powerful brands.
