There are rumors that Apple is making its own modems for the next iPhone, which would delay the launch of an iPhone with 5G, at least until 2020, although this time could be much longer.
This news could be related to some problems that Apple would have with Intel, who is responsible for delivering these connectivity chips for the manufacture of the iPhone.
Apple could lose market presence
It is not the first time that Apple has problems with a company that manufactures modems, previously worked with Qualcomm who supplied the iPhone to the XS, XS Max and XR. However, the problems between these two companies even reached legal issues, which is why Qualcomm refuses to work with Apple .

This can be a big problem for Apple, since the company needs a 5G modem for a future iPhone 5G. For this reason, Apple currently has between 1,000 and 2,000 engineers working on the project of its own modem.
THERE COULD NOT BE AN IPHONE 5G UNTIL 2021
If Apple manufactures its own modems, this could delay the iPhone with 5G capacity until the year 2021, which would leave Apple two years behind its Android competitors such as Samsung, Xiaomi or LG that already have 5G phones. Of course, 5G networks will continue to mature at that time, so it might not hurt Apple too much in the long term.
